Bringing The Family Together At Mealtime! Easier Than You Think!
By Dave Alan

How do I get the whole family together at mealtime? This is one of the biggest questions in many households today.

With Mom and Dad both working and all the school and sports interests going, (not to mention TV, video games, cell phones and what-not), it can be quite a feat to get everyone to the dinner table at the same time. I do not profess to have the ultimate solution, but here you will find a few helpful tips to aid you in your quest for "Quality Family Time".

1. If you both work day jobs, look for easy to prepare dinner recipes that take about 45 minutes or less to prepare.

2. Check out dinner ideas with a meat entree' that you make a little extra and use the portion that is left for a completely different dish later in the week. (Doesn't seem like left-overs this way!)

3. Healthy meals do not always have to be meat, starch and roughage in three separate sections of the plate. A simple casserole and a side salad can be a welcome change.

4. Presentation can be 80% of the experience. Yes, it has to taste good, but the eyes to brain connection plays a big part in this.

5. If family member's tastes vary a bit, mix it up so everyone gets a turn to feel catered to now and then. This can result in expanding individual tastes for all.

These are just a few tips on how to get back to the tradition of "Family Dinner".

I am the primary cook in our household and I pride myself on getting everyone to the table at the same time and enjoying the meals I create.
